Setting the Scene: Yoga in Unconventional Spaces

I was travelling and moving a lot, so from the get-go I knew I wanted to do yoga online, because that was the only viable option for me at the time.

My yoga teaching journey started in this tiny Airbnb where I stayed for about a month. I was like, "Alright, I guess now is as good as any time to start my yoga teacher training!" So, I hopped onto an online course. The space was so small that I had to do some furniture acrobatics, pushing a little table here and there just to have enough room for my yoga moves. And bam, that's how my yoga teacher adventure kicked off.

After saying bye bye to the Airbnb, I moved in with my boyfriend. Teaching yoga in our place became a running joke because it had no windows. People kept asking, "Got windows yet?" Nope, but it was summer, so who cares! Sometimes, birds even joined our sessions. That's the real, unfiltered start of my yoga teacher journey.

The cool thing? I did get to teach classes on the beach, in real life as well. It felt so cool that just for a little while, I also got to connect with people in real life. That didn't last long.

Life gave me another curveball and I had to move back to the Netherlands. To my parents. Now, picture this: I'm back in the Netherlands, teaching from my parents' living room. Whenever they were chilling and watching a movie, I'd be like, "Hey, I've got a class to teach. Bye!" Yup, that was part of my journey – hijacking the living room of my parents.

Fast forward to today, I'm living in a caravan on a camping site. Caravans are pretty tiny, right? So, to create my teaching space, I went all-in and literally yanked out the living room furniture. Now, a chunk of my home is just a cool yoga nook – about one-fifth of the whole place. My home studio is awesome!

Yoga is literally balancing the good and the bad

When you're determined to make something happen, you can find a way. But here's the real deal – life's never just a straight line. So, as I reflect on this wild journey, it's a mix of highs and lows, you know? On one hand, look at me now, rocking this cool yoga journey. On the flip side, there were hurdles too. It's this constant balancing act.

Sure, I'm living with my boyfriend, and that's awesome. We've turned a part of our place into a sweet yoga studio, and the camping site we're in is so chill and serene. But, and there's always a but, my house decides to leak in the middle of winter. Perfect timing, right? Plus, on those rainy days, recording becomes a no-go due to all the noise. Life's weird like that.

So, here's the deal – it's never just one thing. When stuff goes down, you've got to be adaptable, keep shifting, and figure out how to keep moving forward. Because that's how this journey rolls!

Writing Your Success Story

Whether things go well or not so much, documenting the experiences is crucial. Celebrate the wins and learn from the setbacks.

Firstly, show up, even if it feels like it's just for you. Trust me, every moment is a learning experience. Take my podcasting journey or recording videos; it's pretty low-key because, truthfully, you don't always expect a crowd. But you do it for yourself, to get better, to grow. Sure, when you share it, you hope someone tunes in, but even if they don't, you keep going, keep showing up.

Now, when things go well – when you start gathering students or hit a milestone on Instagram – write it down. Celebrate those wins! I used to rush past these moments, thinking, "Okay, now what's the next big thing?" Instead, take a moment to appreciate the journey. Recognize the steps you've taken. Capture those highs in your fancy little journal I know you got.

On the flip side, when things go wrong, jot them down too. Not as a self-pitying exercise, but as a learning opportunity. If a yoga class location isn't vibing with you, note down what bothers you. Next time, when you're on the lookout for a new spot, you'll have a checklist. It's not about labeling yourself a failure but about figuring out what you can change or improve.

And here's a golden rule: if you don't like something, change it. Simple, right?  It's all about adapting, evolving, and making things work for you. So, in a nutshell: keep showing up, note the highs and lows, and when you're not feeling something, change it. That's how you grow and get better at what you do! 🌟

Your Journey Awaits

In conclusion, remember that every journey is unique, filled with twists, turns, and unexpected magic. The essence lies in the adventure itself, in embracing discomfort, learning from both successes and failures, and persisting with the understanding that growth is a continuous process. So, no excuses—start your journey, play with possibilities, and spread your awesome magic.
